Every year, a group of students of the Faculty of Biology at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań under the leadership of Dr. Ryszard Piotrowicz, visits the Słowiński National Park during field activities. One of the subjects touched upon during the expeditions are also river water-crowfoots, for this reason there we could not miss activities in the Łupawa River valley, where two activities are implemented under the LIFENaturaSlowinskaPL project: restoration of the bottom of the Łupawa River valley and construction of a fish ladder.

This year on June 19 field activities began with a visit at the wooden bridge in Smołdzino. Although it is not yet an area of the Słowiński National Park, it is from this location on Łupawa that you can see water-crowfoots. A short introduction about the characteristics of the river and the organisms living in it was presented by the classes' coordinator - Dr. Ryszard Piotrowicz and our botanist - Grzegorz Kupczak, who belongs to the LIFENaturaSlowinskaPL Project Team.

And then we could move towards the Hydroelectric Power Plant in Smołdzino. It was on this damming that the construction of a fish ladder was planned. Students could sit on the shores of Łupawa and listen to the technical aspects of the designed fish pass, the fish biometric monitoring station and the electrical barrier, which were presented by Paulina Sopek - the deputy coordinator of the project. The knowledge provided was also supplemented by Grzegorz Kupczak, who referred to the natural goals for which the project was implemented.

Later in the workshops, Mr. Grzegorz led the whole group on the left bank of the Łupawa River within the area of the Słowiński National Park. As a result, students could see the river valley and three oxbow lakes that are of interest to the LIFENaturaSlowinskaPL project and covered by the action aimed at restoring the Łupawa river valley.

Thank you for your visit and we invite you next year.
