On 3 March 2020 we participated in a meeting held at the Maritime Institute in Gdańsk. The goal of the meeting was to start a discussion on and share experiences and views concerning projects aimed at improving fish migration.
The meeting was held as a part of the project called “Development, promotion and sustainable management of the Baltic Sea Region as a coastal fishing tourism destination” and started with a presentation of the objectives of this project.
The subject of the meeting was addressed in a number of our presentations. Wojciech Leszczyński spoke about the project entitled “The construction of the blue ecological corridor along the valley of Riga River and its tributaries.” Kamil Piecuch presented an overview of possible solutions for the naturalisation of the Parsęta River basin. And Marcin Miller spoke about the role of the Słupia River as a blue ecological corridor. The meeting also featured a presentation of the origins and implementation of the measure concerning fish migration under the project entitled LIFENaturaSlowinskaPL, or “Ensuring the passability of the wildlife corridor on the Łupawa River by constructing a fish ladder.”
Such meetings facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices, while intense discussions concerning not only the substantive matters but also the administrative issues and difficulties confirm the need for holding further meetings in the future.
We would like to express our gratitude for inviting us to the meeting, and invite you to visit our website, which has been developed as part of the RETROUT project.
